A blow-off valve is designed to stop compressor surge – which occurs when you lift your foot off the accelerator and the throttle closes. The boost continues through the intake system towards the engine, but has nowhere to go, except back to the turbo. When the boost returns to the turbo it can slow or stall the compressor wheel – this not only poses a risk of damage to the wheel shaft and bearings, but also slows the turbo, creates turbo lag, and ruins drivability.

The Aeroflow compact blow-off valves are designed to keep your turbo shaft speed at a maximum by reacting to the pressure changes in the intake system and venting the unwanted boost pressure from the intake manifold. It comes complete with a 32mm outlet barb fitting on the side; that when left open will vent-to-atmosphere and can be fully plumbed back to the intake or into a factory-style system. Various other plump back barb adapters are available in sizes from 20mm-38mm. Trumpet fittings are also available and are sold separately.

By turning the adjustable top body the internal spring tension can be increased or decreased to suit the level of boost your running. Typically, the more boost your running, the harder the spring needs to be set. The kit also comes with shims that can be installed internally for high-boost applications to increase the spring preload further – making it harder for the boost to push the valve open.

The new Aeroflow universal compact blow-off valve is not only designed to improve performance, but also to save space. The diameter of the valve is only 38mm, down from the 50mm in the traditional blow-off valve, meaning it takes up less physical space and allows mounting and fitment to a wider range of applications. The body diameter is 91mm, body height is 80mm, or 110mm with the flange.

The body components are CNC-machined from 6061 aluminum alloy and it has brass internals. They are available in either a hard anodised black or a polished stainless look. Both an alloy and a stainless steel weld-on pipe are included as part of the kit. These weld-on pipes attach to the bottom of the blow-off valve with a lock ring with grub screws to secure it in place and seal with a Viton O-ring.
